About Us Certificate for Transporting Human Ashes/Human Remains to India

If the next of kin/ relatives/ family members of the deceased wish to transport human ashes/ mortal remains to India for some religious/customary purpose, the Embassy of India issues a No Objection Certificate  (NOC) in this regard. For this service, concerned applicants have to apply in person.

 

Death of an Indian national should first be registered with the Embassy of India by the next of kin/ relatives/ family members of the deceased by submitting the Death Certificate and last held Indian passport of the deceased. Requirements:

        i.            Miscellaneous Application Form and Death Registration Form (if the deceased was Indian national) dully filled in and signed by the applicant(for Miscellaneous Application Form and Death Registration Form, please visit the link ‘Forms for Consular Services’).

 

      ii.             

                              a.            In case of Indian nationals: Valid passport in original and copies of first two and last two pages of the passport and the page (s) containing passport officer’s observation(s), if any.

 

                              b.            In case of foreign nationals: Valid passport in original and copies of the passport pages containing personal particulars of the passport holder.

 

    iii.            Proof of Residence of the Applicant: Any of the following self-attested documents viz. copy of utility bill (landline telephone bill/electricity bill/gas bill/water bill) or lease deed (of house) etc. where the applicant’s address is clearly mentioned, should be provided, OR Uittreksel from Gemeente where applicant’s address in the Netherlands is clearly mentioned should be provided.

 

    iv.            Death Certificate issued by the relevant local authority in original and its photocopy.

 

      v.            Original Passport of the deceased (for cancellation in case of Indian Passport holder), or original OCI/PIO card (for cancellation if the deceased had obtained any of these cards).

 

    vi.            Cremation Certificate in original and its photocopy

 

  vii.            Certificate from the Funeral Director/ Undertaker confirming that the urn contains ashes/ mortal remains of the deceased person indicating name, age, date, time and cause of death of the deceased. Contents of package must be mentioned in the Certificate fromthe Funeral Director/ Undertaker.

 

Fee: €25.00. Payable by debit card (PIN). Cash is accepted as an exception if exact amount is tendered.

 

Processing Time: Normally, same day/next working day subject to documentation being in order.

 

Note: Apart from the general mandatory requirements mentioned above, applicant may be advised to submit additional documents, after scrutiny, on case to case basis.
