       Mr. KUMAR TUHIN Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of the Netherlands Ambassador Kumar Tuhin is the Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of the Netherlands and is also responsible for India's relations with OPCW, ICJ, PCA and other legal institutions in The Hague. Ambassador Kumar Tuhin joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1991 and earlier served as Director General, Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) from December 2021 to October 2024, Ambassador to Hungary from November 2018 to November 2021 and High Commissioner to Namibia from June 2015 to October, 2018. Ambassador Kumar Tuhin started his career in the Indian Mission in Hong Kong in 1993, where he served till 1995.     Business Hours: The Embassy is open from 0900 – 1730 hours  from Monday to Friday (except on holidays) and is closed on Saturday and Sunday. Consular Services : Applications for Consular Services should be submitted to Outsourced Service Provider of Embassy of India, The Hague, VFS Global. However, applications for following Consular Services should be submitted in person at the Consular Services counter of the Embassy in The Hague: Emergency Certificates Short Validity Passports Endorsement of new passport number on PIO card Life certificate for pensioners Death certificate There is no need to take an appointment for submitting application(s) for Consular Services in the Embassy.      Types of passport Ordinary Passport is the usual category of passport issued to Indian citizens. Normal validity of an ordinary passport is 10 years (except in the case of children up to the age of 15 years where it is issued for a validity of 5 years). Thereafter the passport needs to be re-issued. Wherever any changes are required in personal particulars pages of the passport or where the existing Passport has run out of pages for visas etc , a new passport needs to be obtained. A new passport can be issued one year before final expiry or on final expiry of any passport issued for full validity of 10 years (5 years in the case of minors).     PIO Card scheme has been withdrawn and vide Gazette Notification No. 26011/01/2014-IC.I dated 09.01.2015 (http://www.egazette.nic.in/WriteReadData/2015/162411.pdf)Henceforth, applicants may apply for OCI card ONLY, as PIO card scheme is no longer in existence.It is pertinent to mention that erstwhile PIO cards are handwritten whereas the new OCI cards are machine readable. From October 2018, International Civil Aviation Organisation will accept only machine-readable travel documents.     OVERSEAS CITIZEN OF INDIA(OCI) CARD Type of Document A foreign national, who was eligible to become citizen of India on 26.01.1950 or was a citizen of India on or at anytime after 26.01.1950 or belonged to a territory that became part of India after 15.08.1947 is eligible for registration as Overseas Citizen of India (OCI).     Indian Community in Netherlands NRI/PIO community Netherlands has second largest population of people of Indian origin in Europe (next only to UK).     Service Fee Apart from normal fees prescribed for all consular services, an additional service fee to be charged at the rate of Euro 3 per application/service will be made applicable on all consular services including Visa, Passport, OCI, PIO etc with effect from 1st September 2010.     URGENT/ EMERGENCY VISA Visa applications can be accepted under ‘Urgent/ Emergency’ category if applicants make out a case for service within 24 hours irrespective of any holidays/working hours. Explanatory letter explaining the urgency/ emergency must be attached to the application. Urgency has to be justified and will be examined on case to case basis.     India's GDP could rise to about USD 8 trillion over the next 15 years if the country registers an economic growth of 8 per cent annually and come very close to eliminating abject poverty entirely, NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Arvind Panagariya has said. "Today, the Indian economy is among the major economies, the fastest growing economy, it has now left China behind. It grew in real dollars in the last 15 years ending 2016-17 (at) about 9 per cent," Panagariya said.     Although private investment growth in India will remain challenging in the short term, it will eventually pick up in 2018-19 to overtake private consumption as the main driver of economic growth, the World Bank said in its latest ‘India Economic Update’. Gross fixed capital formation (GFCF), which indicates investment demand in the economy, is forecast to grow by 3.3% in FY17, jump to 6.8% in FY18 and overtake private consumption (7.4%) in FY19 with 8.8% growth to become the major growth driver.     Industry body FICCI said that the rollout of GST will bring about significant gains to India's economy and it looks forward to working with the Government for successful implementation of the crucial tax reform.  GST will ease the burden of taxpayers in understanding and complying with tax laws and help in reducing the generation of black money, it said. "Goods and Services Tax (GST) will prevent cascading of taxes since input tax credit will be available across goods and services at each stage of the supply chain.   • Government sanctions US 18.6 billion for development of beaches, rivers as tourist spots

    The government has sanctioned more than Rs1,200 crore (US $ 18.6 billion) for the development of beaches and rivers as tourist spots, the Rajya Sabha (Upper House of Parliament) was informed. Replying to a query, Union tourism minister Mahesh Sharma said that 11 projects, worth Rs 896.66 crore, have been sanctioned under the coastal circuit of the ‘Swadesh Darshan Scheme’ and four projects, costing Rs119.27 crore, have been earmarked under the Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spirituality Augmentation Drive (PRASAD) to harness the potential of beaches as a tourist attraction.   • Indian renewable market to witness strong growth

    As India is moving towards meeting its commitments under the Paris agreement on climate change, its renewable energy market is likely to witness a strong growth over many years, says Moody's Investors Service.  "However, renewable energy projects face challenges related to the weak credit quality of takers, an evolving regulatory framework, as well as financing and execution risks," Moody's vice-president and senior analyst Abhishek Tyagi said in a statement issued here. According to the rating agency, India's emission reduction commitments under the Paris agreement will lead to a sharp rise in renewable energy capacity.  India aims to achieve 40 per cent of cumulative installed capacity through non-fossil fuel sources by 2030 from the current 30 per cent and also plans to grow its renewable energy capacity to 175 GW by 2022 from the current 57GW.     With Cadila Healthcare, Glenmark Pharmaceuticals and Unichem Laboratories getting the US drug regulator’s nod this week to launch one generic drug each, the tally of abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) approvals for Indian firms went up to 129 this year - a 45% jump from 89 in the January-July period of last year. “While on the one hand the US FDA is putting pressure on companies to upgrade their facilities to its standard, on the other hand it has now become more efficient by providing faster approvals to new drugs,” said Jagdish Dore, Managing Director at Sidvim Lifesciences, a firm specializing in preparing Indian companies for FDA inspections.   • Digital Commerce in India to reach US 31.11 Billion by December

    The digital commerce market in India is pegged to grow to Rs 2,20,330 crore (US$ 34.11 bn) by December 2017, an industry report said.  According to a report by Internet and Mobile Association of India and IMRB Kantar, digital commerce in India has grown at a CAGR of 30 per cent to reach Rs 1,68,891 crore (1crore=10 mln) by the end of December 2016. "It is estimated to reach Rs 2,20,330 crore by December 2017," it added. This translates into a growth of 30.4 per cent.  The online travel market, which would continue to account for over half of India's digital commerce, is expected to touch Rs 1,18,598 crore by December 2017. This is over 24 per cent higher than Rs 95,198 crore registered last year.  The e-Tailing segment is expected to reach around Rs 94,964 crore by the end of this year, growing at about 59 per cent from Rs 59,876 crore in December 2016.  The report also stated that online utility payment (for services like DTH/telephone and electricity bills) would reach Rs…

    The Indian media and entertainment industry is expected to grow much faster than the global M&E industry according to the PwC's 2017 Global E&M Outlook. The report pegs the global entertainment and media industry to clock 4.2 per cent CAGR from 2016-21 while India is expected to grow at 10.6 per cent. The Indian M&E industry is expected to exceed Rs 291,000 crore (US$ 45.2 billion) by 2021. The key takeaways from the report are in line with major industry trends: TV advertising will continue to command a huge share of the advertising pie, though internet advertising will emerge as the fastest growing advertising platform. Also in line with current trends, the report predicts India to be among the largest and fastest growing newspaper markets in the world, owing to the popularity of vernacular publications, and increasing literacy rates.

  • Indias GSAT-17 Communication Satellite Launched Successfully

    In the third satellite launch by ISRO this month, India’s latest communication satellite GSAT-17 was successfully launched by a heavy duty rocket of Arianespace from the spaceport of Kourou in French Guyana.  Configured around I-3K extended bus, GSAT-17 with a lift-off mass of about 3,477 kg carries payloads in Normal C- band, Extended C-band and S-band to provide various communication services. It also carries equipment for meteorological data relay and satellite based search and rescue services being provided by earlier INSAT satellites. GSAT-17 that will strengthen ISRO’s current fleet of 17 telecommunications satellites was launched into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO). This is third satellite launch by ISRO this month, the other two being first developmental flight of GSLV MkIII and PSLV C-38 missions -- both from Sriharikota spaceport.     The Indian tractor industry is expected to record a volume growth of 9-10 per cent in the current financial year, mainly supported by a healthy monsoon, according to rating agency ICRA.  "Healthy monsoon expectation, coupled with good reservoir levels, augurs well for farm output in the current fiscal. This, coupled with an expectation of improvement in non-farm income, aided by the Government's focus on rural spending, infrastructure creation and irrigation spending, is likely to drive the demand for tractors, which is expected to record a volume growth of 9-10 per cent this fiscal," ICRA said in a report.  "Over the long term, we continue to maintain an annual growth estimate of 8-9 per cent for the industry.     Internet users in the country will double by 2021 to 829 million users from 373 million users in 2016, driven by digital transformation according to a recent report.  This means roughly 59 per cent of the Indian population will use the internet. Also, there would be two billion networked devices in 2021 up from 1.4 billion in 2016.     Mobile data consumption per subscriber in India has risen by 142 per cent in the last three years, NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said. "Significant progress in digital access: During 2014-17,India has seen a 142 per cent year-on-year increase in mobile data consumption per subscriber," Kant said in a tweet.     DIPP eases mechanism for processing FDI proposals The Commerce and Industry Ministry has eased the mechanism for processing foreign direct investment (FDI) proposals by doing away with the requirement of sending the applications to the department of revenue. Amending a provision in the standard operating procedure for processing of FDI proposals, the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) said that marking of proposals to the revenue department for their comments has been "discontinued" with immediate effect. The move is aimed at further promoting ease of doing business in the country to attract overseas inflows. "In 2014, we produced 60 million mobile phones.     PE investment in wind, solar up 47% in 2017 The renewable energy sector in India has witnessed a spike in private equity (PE) flows in 2017, despite facing challenges like plunging tariffs and policy modifications.  PE flows into wind and solar power jumped 47 per cent to $920 million - involving nine deals - during January 1-September 25 this year, compared to $630 million across 10 deals during the corresponding period last year, according to Venture Intelligence data. This is the second-best year in terms of PE flows into the sector after 2015, when it attracted $979 million across 14 deals.  As far as wind energy is concerned, experts say the wind sector was at an inflection point. As the underlying sector economics remain strong, this platform is well poised to add capacity on the ground and create value for both shareholders thanks to the improving wind technology yields.     India's auto components industry grows 14% to about US$ 456.1bn The Indian auto components industry expanded by 14.3 per cent to Rs 2.92 lakh crore (US$ 456.1 billion) last fiscal year on the back of robust growth in after-market sales. According to the latest data by Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), the after-market segment grew by 25.6 per cent to Rs 56,096 crore last fiscal from Rs 44,660 crore in the preceding year. Exports in 2016-17 were at Rs 73,128 crore as against Rs 70,916 crore in the previous year, up 3.1 per cent.     India companies lead the world on disclosing CSR spends: Study India has witnessed a marginal dip in corporate responsibility-related reporting by the top- 100 companies, but continues to be among the best in the world in this aspect, a 49-country study has found. It also tops in the list of countries with highest rate of corporate responsibility (CR) related information in annual reports, it said, adding 98 per cent of the top 100 companies have the details. As against a 100 per cent compliance observed in 2015, the reporting rate dipped marginally to 99 per cent for 2017, the study by global consultancy major KPMG has said. It can be noted that under the amended Companies Act, 2013, corporate social responsibility (CSR) reporting has been made mandatory for companies. Many of them are being detained for several days at the airports in Mexico and thereafter deported to India, resulting in immense hardship and economic loss to the distressed travellers. As their mobile phones are taken away, the detained persons cannot be reached by anyone, including their family and friends causing further distress.
